Inspired by the Subway project

Researching, recording and sharing the heritage of Crystal Palace subway

Between September 2013 and September 2014 the Friends of Crystal Palace Subway ran a community heritage project to research the history of the Crystal Palace Subway.

During that year volunteers were trained in oral history and research skills. Interviews with people who remember using the subway in the past were recorded and examples can be seen in the Subway stories section of the website.

Archive research was carried out and this has produced a number of materials that can be seen on the History page with additional information in the research section of the site.

We have also did a local history talk, showed films with heritage interest at a local screening, conducted art workshops with local young people, trained six tour guides, held an exhibition celebrating our achievements at the Crystal Palace Concert Platform and a display of materials at the Upper Norwood Library.

Examples of all activities and materials are shared on this website, to find out more contact the project via our contact page.
